In the newly released movie ‘What the health’ Filmmaker Kip Andersen (Cowspiracy) uncovers the secret to preventing and even reversing chronic diseases, and he investigates why the nation’s leading health organizations doesn’t want people to know about it. ‘What the health’ is similar to Cowspiracy in that it charts his journey in finding out the truth about the impact of animal agriculture but this time with a health aspect. Just like Cowspiracy, the movie is easy to watch and not gory unless you count the 3 second human heart bypass operation footage!

Over fifty people attended the Christchurch Vegetarian Centre annual vegan dessert and film evening. The film was followed by a question and answer session with Drs Mathew Hobbs and Tony Raizis. There were lots of questions especially about how to get the message out to the public about the health benefits of a vegan diet and the openness of the medical profession to this message. Dr Hobbs likened it to the journey of educating the public about smoking; another practice that doctors originally supported.

There was an equally strong interest in the desserts that followed with highlights including banoffie pie, red velvet cupcakes and a coconut cream pie.

‘What the health’ is available to buy in New Zealand for $30 from the New Zealand Vegetarian Society online shop or you can watch it online at the website.
