Berkano Foods is New Zealand’s premier vegan ready meal service and is now launching its products into supermarkets around New Zealand. The Christchuch-based company is starting with 30 stores as a trial run and then expanding to 200 stores by the end of this year. Vegan engineer Tom Milner believes the UK will be vegan by the year 2030. He surveyed more than 2800 vegans to find the rate at which veganism is skyrocketing. The survey asked just four questions – length of time being vegan, age, gender, and location – and found 82.6 per cent of respondents had turned vegan in the last five years.…

A new billboard on Wellington’s Cuba St is encouraging people to try a 22-day vegan challenge. The billboard, funded by contributions from animal rights activist groups across NZ, directs people to a website where they are encouraged to go vegan for 22 days and see how they find it. Vice Cream is New Zealand’s first 100 per cent dairy free soft serve truck and is based in Queenstown (but we hope will visit Christchurch soon!).
